The false Doll got the message well enough. Its skin felt like smooth leather, and what filled its fingers had more give than one would find in muscle and bone. The door opened only a moment after Ragdoll was in position.
"Is he asleep?" muttered a low voice. The glow of a candle cast long shadows across the room, and when it moved the quiet clatter of jewelry could be heard.
The homunculus nodded.
"Does he remain compliant?"
Another nod.
"Good. Ensure he is not disturbed and wake him at dawn."
The door shut again. The false Doll immediately raised up on tiptoe to haul Ragdoll down to the ground, gentle enough that his feet didn't make noise when they touched the tiled floor.
